| 一般注記 | Theodor Heuss verteidigte als ungewöhnlich vielseitiger Bürger und engagierter Demokrat die Weimarer Republik durch alle ihre Krisen hindurch. Seit 1918 arbeitete er als Redakteur und Verbandsfunktionär in Berlin. Zudem setzte er sich für die staatsbürgerliche Bildung ein und trat unermüdlich als Redner und Publizist auf. Vor allem als linksliberaler Abgeordneter im Reichstag stritt Heuss seit 1924 für die bald bedrängte Demokratie bis zum Ende der Weimarer Republik. In den 229 ausgewählten und weitgehend noch unpublizierten Briefen von Theodor Heuss spiegeln sich seine aufregende Biographie und die dramatischen Zeitläufte vom letzten Kriegsjahr bis zur Machtübertragung an die Nationalsozialisten im Januar 1933 wechselseitig. 229 zum größten Teil in dieser Ausgabe erstmals veröffentlichte Briefe Korrespondenz mit der politischen, intellektuellen und künstlerlischen Elite der Weimarer Republik Neben der Bedeutung als historische Quelle besitzen diese Briefe eine hohe literarische Qualität Theodor Heuss was an extraordinarily versatile citizen and committed democrat who defended the Weimar Republic through all its crises. From 1918 onwards he worked as an editor and official in the Guild of German Writers. In addition, he was committed to education in citizenship and worked indefatigably as a writer and public speaker. It was above all as a left-wing liberal member of the German Parliament from 1924 onwards that Heuss fought for the beleaguered democracy until the end of the Weimar Republic.
